By the time you’re done reading this article, 1.5 tonnes of food will have been thrown away. That’s how much food waste we generated every minute as a nation.
Every day, we are throwing away more than 2,000 tonnes of food on average. That’s 2 million kilograms.
These come from food manufacturers, hotels, malls, markets, hawker centres, schools, households and other F&B premises.
Out of these, only 16% is recycled. The rest is incinerated and put into landfills.
