SG Food Rescue is a ground-up movement. It is driven by a group of people who see something wrong with our food system and want to do something about it.
Our community members give the use of their time, energy, and vehicles to help reduce food waste. Every month, our Food Recipients receive about 6000kg of food, which can feed almost 300 people for a week. With the money saved from having to buy food and hungry stomachs filled, we help the food insecure in Singapore to feel a little bit more secure.
There’s much more that we want to do, but we are limited by time.
We are limited by time because most of our volunteers have an occupation, so they can volunteer only their free time to help us out. The only volunteers who can dedicate most days of the week to our cause are the currently unemployed. When they run out of savings, they too need to find an occupation and will not be able to contribute as much time to our cause.
What if we could give them an allowance to rescue food?
What if we could take away their money worries so that they could continue to do what they have been doing in SG Food Rescue?
That would be awesome!
But to do that, we need your help.
Our first milestone was to raise $10,000, which we have achieved. This has allowed us to give one of our full-time volunteers a stipend to help cover some daily living costs, for about half a year. This also buys us time to raise more funds for the second half of the year.
